The first buyers of the new Apple TV 4K may have been surprised, while browsing the App Store, to find applications requiring a 1st generation Apple TV Remote. We find this message with Molotov and also some games.

Should we rummage in the attic (or on iOccasion!) to get control over the previous version of the Apple TV remote? In fact, after trying quite a few tvOS applications requiring this accessory, I only came across one game that really required the accessory, and that is Galaxy on Fire : Manticore Rising, which has not been updated since 2016. Cannot play without. Asphalt 8 also needs the previous remote control, but you can play it with a controller (when possible, the game is plantogenic).
There is no problem for Molotov or Sonic Racing, although for the latter one might find it more comfortable to play on the tactile surface of the first, larger Siri remote control. Or quite simply on the iPhone (neither Asphalt 8 nor Galaxy on Fire know what to do with the smartphone remote control app).
The new Apple TV remote has put away the video game claims of its predecessor, claims long abandoned by Apple (as early as 2016, in fact). The new model just doesn’t include an accelerometer (read: The new Siri Remote is no longer a (poor) gamepad).
Apple no longer sells the first generation telco, we will only find the model intended for the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV (25 €) and the new model (65 €). The 1st or 2nd generation remote control can be easily paired with Apple TV, follow the guide. On the other hand, a box will only support one remote control at a time.
