Apple introduces the first scripted film captured in Apple Immersive Video and unveils additional immersive films for Apple Vision Pro

New episodes, films, series and concerts recorded in Apple Immersive Video will be released later this year, with more to come early next year

Apple today introduced new episodes, films, series and music performances recorded with Apple Immersive Video that will be available for free on Apple Vision Pro. Apple Immersive Video is a remarkable media format that uses ultra-high-definition 3D video and 3D audio to put viewers at the center of the action.

Submergedthe first scripted short film recorded in Apple Immersive Video, written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Berger, is available now. Next month, Apple and The Weeknd, whose albums have received RIAA Diamond awards seven times, will present a breathtaking, immersive musical experience, the highly anticipated new album Hurry Up Tomorrow
celebrates. With Concert for Onea new concert series premiering later this year, fans can experience intimate performances from the world’s biggest artists, starting with a special set from award-winning British singer-songwriter RAYE. There will also be new episodes of this year Adventure published in which pioneers of the sport are accompanied as they overcome impressive challenges.

Submerged

This immersive fiction thriller, available free to Apple Vision Pro users around the world, invites viewers onto a World War II-era submarine and follows its crew as they fight a horrific attack . This adrenaline-pumping thrill ride showcases the unique storytelling possibilities enabled by Apple Immersive Video.

With Submerged“, an immersive film from visionary director Edward Berger, we are excited to present the next level of narrative filmmaking,” said Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice president of marketing communications. “With the Vision Pro you are right in the middle of the action — in a very cramped submarine, shoulder to shoulder with the crew. This deep sense of immersion simply hasn’t been possible before, and we can’t wait to see how it inspires filmmakers to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.”

“Apple Immersive Video is a wonderful new medium that expands the horizons of storytelling,” said Edward Berger, director of the Oscar-winning film Nothing new in the West and the upcoming critically acclaimed film Conclave. “The Apple Vision Pro inspired me to tell a story in a way that simply wasn’t possible before, and in doing so, it changed the way my team and I fundamentally think about storytelling. This immersive technology developed by Apple will transform the future of filmmaking.”

Submerged was filmed over a period of three weeks in Prague, Brussels and Malta. A true-to-scale 23-ton submarine set made of real steel, brass and metal was used, which was modeled after World War II-era submarines. Large portions of the set were built to be completely submerged and featured convenient camera traps and special effects specifically designed to expose Apple Immersive Video cameras to sparks, steam, water and fire without the sensation of the Impairing the audience’s ability to be in the middle of the action. Actors who might appear out of frame or out of focus in a 2D film have been carefully incorporated into the script. They have taken part in extensive stunt rehearsals, including freediving training in diving pools and open water, to ensure continuity and realism. Elevated

In the first episode of Elevateda series about air travel premiering today, viewers will fly over volcanoes, climb over waterfalls and discover untold natural wonders on the world’s longest island chain, Hawaii. The next installment – “Maine” – due out early next year, will experience a crisp New England fall, with a breathtaking journey along winding coastlines and over incredibly impressive rivers.

2024 NBA All-Star Weekend

On November 7th, basketball fans can look forward to an immersive short film about the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend Featuring the Rising Stars, the Slam Dunk Contest, the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge, “Stephen vs. Sabrina” and highlights from the All-Star Game.

Concert for One

Concert for One is the first music series captured in Apple Immersive Video, bringing fans closer to their favorite artists than ever before. The first performance that viewers can enjoy in the best seat in their home is that of six-time BRIT Award winner RAYE, who, together with her 20-piece band, performs her mix of R&B, jazz and pop.

Adventure
