Next year, Apple will release fourth-generation AirPods wireless headphones with new features that will make them more attractive to consumers. This was stated by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

The report says that Apple will release two versions of AirPods 4, which will be available at different price points. The move comes as Apple aims to replace the AirPods 3, as well as the cheaper AirPods 2, which are still in production. The journalist notes that, with the exception of design, there are few differences between AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, which confuses potential buyers and deprives Apple of additional benefits when consumers prefer a cheaper model.
As for AirPods 4, according to Gurman, the headphones will receive an updated design with short stems, which will allow them to look like a cross between AirPods and AirPods Pro. The fit of the earbuds is expected to improve, but it’s unclear whether Apple plans to include silicone ear pads. The updated headphone case will be complemented by a speaker, on the basis of which the Find My function is implemented, as well as a USB Type-C interface for connecting a charger.
Regarding the differences between the two versions of AirPods 4, the more expensive model will receive support for active noise cancellation (ANC), which so far only AirPods Pro has. This will allow consumers to purchase Apple’s active noise-canceling headphones at a lower price, making AirPods 4 more attractive.
Later next year, Gurman expects a software update for AirPods 4 that will add hearing aid functionality, making the headphones an over-the-counter alternative to traditional hearing aids. Apple may also offer headphone users to undergo special tests that will help identify hearing impairment.
AirPods 4 are expected to be released in the second half of 2024, possibly in September, when the new iPhones will be announced. In addition to this, Apple intends to release updated AirPods Max, but in this case, innovations will be limited to the appearance of additional color options and a USB Type-C interface.
