Apple is preparing to add health features to its headphones, according to Mark Gurman. will focus more on health features
The first device to add this capability is the new hearing-impaired AirPods Pro. AirPods will support audiogram profiles, which the iOS operating system can tune to output for people who are hard of hearing. Which we can now do through apps like Mimi.
Gurman also said that Apple is exploring product placement of the AirPods Pro as a hearing aid after the US FDA made it available to the general public. After previously requiring only a doctor’s prescription, Apple hired engineers specializing in hearing aids.
The new features that are being developed are Adding body temperature capabilities to AirPods by adding a temperature sensor like the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, which measures the temperature from the ear canal instead of the wrist.
Gurman says both features will still need months or years. In the near future, the AirPods Pro charging case will switch to a USB-C port to comply with the new EU law, and the hardware inside may not change much.
In addition, Apple decided to lower the price of second-generation AirPods to $99 to compete with lower-cost headphones from Samsung, Sony and Amazon.
