Apple Sues Recycling Partner for Reselling Over 100,000 Devices | NOW

Apple is suing its former recycling partner GEEP Canada for stealing and reselling at least 103,845 iPhones, iPads and watches. The partner was responsible for dismantling and recycling the devices, reports Apple Insider.

Apple is reported to have sent the recycling company more than 500,000 iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches between January 2015 and December 2017. When Apple conducted an audit, the company found that 18 percent of those devices still had access to the Internet through cellular networks. That 18 percent doesn’t count Apple devices without cellular radio, so it’s possible that an even higher percentage of the gadgets have been resold.

Apple is demanding at least $ 31 million (about $ 19.9 million) from its former partner. The recycling company does not deny that there has been theft; the company, in turn, is said to have filed a lawsuit against three employees. Apple disagrees, arguing that the three employees were in fact senior management of GEEP Canada.
