Apple is making a major change to in-app subscriptions on iPhone and iPad regarding billing issues.
Starting this summer, you’ll be able to troubleshoot billing issues directly in the app if a subscription renewal fails. Previously, you had to manage subscription payment errors through your Apple ID settings.
Apple a announcement the news on its developer website. The company says that if an auto-renewing subscription doesn’t renew due to a billing issue, customers will see a prompt right in this app to update their payment method.
The pop-up message is provided by the system and prompts users to update the payment method for their Apple ID. This change simplifies the process for customers and developers and should lead to a reduction in expired subscriptions.
Apple says developers won’t have to do anything to adopt the feature, as it’s part of the StoreKit framework with iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4.
