Apple still sells its new iPhone 12 devices in France in combination with earplugs, because this is required by law. That discovered MacRumors.
The iPhone 12 is the first smartphone where Apple does not supply a power adapter and wired earbuds. The tech giant says it wants to reduce its impact on the environment in this way.
Apple’s French website states that the iPhone 12 will still be sold in combination with earplugs. The company does not give a reason, but in France it is mandatory to supply telephones with a wired hands-free kit.
Many telephone makers already comply with that law by supplying earplugs, which often include a microphone for calling. Apple threatened to become the exception by not including the earplugs.
Protection against radio waves
The law was introduced to protect children under the age of fourteen from the possible effects of radio waves. While there is no concrete evidence of damage from smartphone signals, the country has passed the law preemptively.
If Apple had delivered the iPhone 12 phones without earplugs, the company risked a fine of 75,000 euros. The company must also supply a health warning with the devices.
