appstores
Apple would face a fine of almost 500 million euros from the European Union. The British business newspaper Financial Times reported this on Sunday.
According to the British business newspaper Financial Times, Apple would risk a European fine of almost 500 million euros. The European Commission believes Apple broke competition rules by preventing rival music services from informing iPhone users of cheaper alternatives outside the App Store. Europe’s investigation into Apple’s approach was launched almost four years ago after complaints from rival music streamers, including Spotify. It claimed that it had been forced to raise the price of its monthly subscriptions to cover costs resulting from the way Apple tries to disadvantage rivals through its App Store. Spotify talked about a stranglehold.
The fine, which is around 500 million euros, was expected to be announced early next month. The Commission declined comment, but Apple maintains that its App Store just helped Spotify become the largest music streaming service in Europe.
Pay
In another European investigation into Apple’s tap to pay technology, the company is said to be willing to settle. Apple would open up that contactless payment technology to competitors. In return, Europe would not impose fines. (bloomberg)
