Apple Music brings Spatial Audio to Mercedes-Benz for the first time for surround sound
There has been a lot of talk about Apple and cars (from the alleged Apple Car, to the updated infotainment system inside the car that’s still on the way), but this new addition to the car has nothing to do with that.
Apple Music has partnered with Mercedes-Benz to bring spatial audio to its cars, meaning Mercedes “will become the first non-smartphone-branded device to offer Apple Music spatial audio with Dolby Atmos.” What do you think of this audio update?
Not that Dolby Atmos in cars is anything new: Lucid Air was the first to tick that box, while Mercedes-Maybach joined the party at its launch earlier this summer.

Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos update will also be available for Mercedes S-Class (from 2021), EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV, and from October 17, 2022 for new purchases (or later, over the air update, if you already have one of those vehicles) for Apple Music subscribers.
What music is available in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos in the app? The brand has a full playlist on its official website, so you can check out the albums that have been mixed in the fully immersive surround sound format for you to listen to.
Mercedes is also keen to offer the best way to hear this type of content, with its offerings of Burmester audio systems capable of truly powerful sound. At the higher end of the spectrum is a “4D” system that includes 31 speakers and 1,750 watts of total power. Oh well, oh well.
So no, it’s not an Apple car, but right now Mercedes is at the forefront of this audio upgrade for its in-car systems courtesy of Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos in the brand’s music app.
