Since the release of Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021, Apple has added a fast charging function to their smart watch products. As long as they are matched with the corresponding charger, the Apple Watch battery can be charged from 0% to 80% in about 45 minutes. A few days ago, foreign media reported that Apple recently issued instructions to accessory manufacturers that all new Apple Watch accessories need to correspond to the fast charging function.
The elimination of slow charging accessories is limited by the supply shortage of new charging modules. When the Apple Watch fast charging function was first launched, some MFi certified accessory manufacturers were forced to use older and slower charging technologies. However, as the supply gradually stabilized, Apple started asking component makers to make changes. It is reported that MFi manufacturers can submit accessory projects using the first-generation slow charging C162 charging module before August 31, and Apple’s MFi plan will stop providing C162 charging modules after September 30.
New mods may trigger price increases
Starting from October this year, Apple will only provide C962 charging modules for fast charging and accessories for MFi manufacturers using C962. It is said that the price of C962 modules will be higher than that of C162 modules. It is expected that some of them will use C962 modules. Accessories may therefore increase the price.
