Apple reportedly cut iPad production by 50% to guarantee iPhone 13 components

The global chip shortage is affecting the entire mobile tech industry, and Apple is among the tech giants potentially affected. Yesterday, 9to5Mac reported that, according to industry sources, Apple decided to cut iPad production in order to save components for the iPhone 13 series.

Global chip shortages have affected Apple and other tech giants. Due to this situation, products such as the new and powerful iPhone 13 series or Apple Watch Series 7 are under supply worldwide and order shipments are delayed. In an attempt to alleviate the problem, Apple is said to have cut some iPad production in order to save components for the iPhones.

According to sources, Nikkei Asia reported that Apple has “sharply reduced” iPad production due to the global chip shortage, in an effort to have enough components for the iPhone 13 series. According to the information, Apple wants to increase iPhone shipments, and iPad is less in demand than iPhone.

IPad production would have been cut by 50%, and production of older iPhone models would also have been cut, prioritizing Apple’s all-new flagship series. Some of the components of the iPhone 13 are shared in these devices.

Currently, the demand for Apple’s latest products has increased. Although the iPhone is Apple’s top priority, iPad sales are far from low and this year the company has shipped 40.3 million units so far.

As you can imagine, the fact that Apple is slowing the production rate means that you will have to wait longer to receive your iPad order, if you have one. Currently, the shipping estimate for some iPad models is postponed to mid-December, but it could slip even further. Analysts said the global chip shortage could continue into the next year, so buyers will potentially have to get used to the long shipping times for Apple products and those of other tech giants.

As the holiday season approaches, people are looking for gifts for their families and for themselves. Recently, Apple posted on its website that customers can shop earlier, possibly in an effort to get those orders to arrive before the holidays. In addition, the Cupertino giant has extended the return deadline and all products purchased from Apple between November 1 and December 25 can be returned until January 8, 2022.
