This news comes from Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman. Gurman said this internal trial has already started but it is likely that the change from the Lightning port to USB-C will only occur as early as 2023.

That is, it is likely that the iPhone 15 will be the first iPhone to use USB-C. While the iPhone 14 line released this year will still use the Lightning port.

Apple first introduced the Lightning port on the iPhone 5, which was released in 2012. This smaller port replaces the larger and more space-consuming 30-pin connector.

But in recent years Apple has started to pair USB-C for some of its devices. The latest generation iPad line is equipped with USB-C, while the MacBook has been using USB-C for five years to charge it.

Gurman says USB-C trial for iPhone This was driven in part by the European Union’s proposal to require a range of electronic devices, including cell phones, to use USB-C as a common standard.

By moving to USB-C, iPhone users can also experience faster data transfers and charging than using the Lightning port. The VergeSaturday (14/5/2022).

Rumors of a portless iPhone have also sprung up, and Gurman says Apple has developed an iPhone without a charging port. But recent reports indicate a portless iPhone won’t be coming any time soon.

This Gurman report corroborates analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s report a few days ago. Much like Gurman, Kuo previously said Apple would replace the Lightning port in the iPhone with USB-C in 2023.

In addition, Gurman also reports that Apple is developing a Lightning to USB-C adapter to maintain compatibility of all types of connections.
