Apple has just released an exciting update for its VisionOS, version 1.1, which brings a range of improvements and new features to enhance the user experience. One of the most notable updates is the improved personas of users, which includes enhancements to hair and makeup appearance, neck and mouth representation, and rendering of the eyes for EyeSight. This means that when wearing the VisionOS headset, others can now see your eyes more realistically.
To make the setup process even more convenient, Apple has introduced a new feature that allows users to set up their personas without holding the device. By navigating to Settings > Persona and selecting “Hands-free Capture” mode after the initial setup steps, users can easily create their personalized personas.
In addition to these user-focused enhancements, VisionOS 1.1 also introduces Mobile Device Management (MDM) for enterprise users. This feature enables administrators to manage their devices more efficiently by setting up custom configurations, installing apps at scale, and performing remote erases of devices. Apple had previously announced its plans to support enterprise device management, recognizing the importance of managing devices at scale for businesses.
Jeremy Butcher, worldwide product marketing for enterprise at Apple, expressed the company’s commitment to providing robust technology for managing Vision Pro devices. He stated, “We know that in order to unlock all of [the power of the Apple Vision Pro], businesses are going to want to manage these devices at scale. So the good news is we’ve got a lot of great technology to bring over to Vision Pro in that regard.”
Apart from these major updates, VisionOS 1.1 also includes several smaller improvements for users. Users now have the ability to delete system apps directly from the Home View, giving them more control over their device’s customization. The update also brings improvements to the discovery and connection process when using a Mac with Mac Virtual Display. Furthermore, the virtual keyboard now offers better text input accuracy, enhancing the overall typing experience. Lastly, Apple has updated the closed caption controls for viewing Apple Immersive videos, ensuring a seamless and accessible viewing experience.
Developers have been actively creating apps for VisionOS, and the platform now boasts over 1,000 native apps available on the App Store. This growing selection of apps further expands the possibilities and functionalities of VisionOS, making it an even more enticing choice for users.
With the release of VisionOS 1.1, Apple continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving and expanding its augmented reality (AR) offerings. The enhanced user personas and enterprise device management features are sure to attract both individual users and businesses alike. As Apple’s AR ecosystem continues to evolve, we can expect even more exciting updates and innovations in the future.
