Apple has just released a new sports app for the iPhone, providing sports fans with a one-stop destination for scores, stats, standings, upcoming games, betting odds, and more. The app covers a variety of leagues, including MLB, MLS, NBA, NHL, Premier League, and the NFL when its next season begins. With a simple and user-friendly interface, Apple Sports aims to deliver fast access to information without overwhelming users.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s services chief and a well-known sports enthusiast, explained the purpose behind the app’s design. “We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” Cue stated in Apple’s press release. The app allows users to personalize their experience by following their favorite teams and leagues, ensuring that they receive updates and notifications tailored to their interests.
In an interview with Fast Company’s Harry McCracken, Cue further emphasized the app’s simplicity. “We’re not trying to have you spend 30 minutes on the app,” he said. “You can spend five seconds to go look at the score, or you might spend 30 seconds, or you might spend three minutes going play-by-play because it’s the end of the game. It’s all about that. It’s getting you in, giving you what you need, and doing it really quickly.”
One notable feature mentioned by Fast Company is Live Activities, which allows users to view scores at a glance on the Lock Screen or in the Dynamic Island on specific iPhone models. However, this feature has not been fully functional in early testing, and there is no Live Activities toggle in the app’s settings. It remains to be seen if Apple will address this issue in future updates.
Considering Apple’s recent ventures into live sports streaming with offerings like MLS Season Pass and MLB’s Friday Night Baseball, it is plausible that the Apple Sports app could evolve into a comprehensive hub for sports-related content. However, for now, Apple seems focused on providing a streamlined and efficient experience for users.
Apple Sports is now available for free on the App Store in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. Whether you’re a die-hard sports fan or simply want to stay updated on the latest scores and stats, this app promises to be a valuable tool for all iPhone users. With its user-friendly interface and fast access to information, Apple Sports is set to become a go-to app for sports enthusiasts everywhere.
