Apple has released new 5B58 firmware for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, original AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max.
Apple released 5B58 firmware for earlier this week for the AirPods Pro 2. But yesterday it released it for Apple’s other audio devices along with operating system updates.
Apple doesn’t offer readily available release notes on what’s included in updated firmware updates for AirPods, but the company maintains a support document with release information. The 5B58 update for AirPods Pro 2 added “bug fixes and other improvements”, with no other details available.
How to update AirPods
You can check the firmware of your AirPods or AirPods Pro by following these steps:
- Connect your AirPods or AirPods Pro to your iOS device.
- Open the “Settings” app.
- Press «General»
- Press “Information”
- Tap »AirPods»
- Look at the number next to “Firmware Version”
There is no standard way to update the AirPods software, but the firmware is usually installed over the air while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Put the AirPods into the case, plug the AirPods into a power source, then pair the AirPods iPhone or iPad. This should force a brief update of the AirPods.
