Apple has released an update. Firmware for AirPods For many models of AirPods, following the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 that issued updates recently.
Firmware for AirPods
On September 26, 2024, Apple released an AirPods Firmware update for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with the following build numbers.
- AirPods Pro 2: 7A305 Upgrade from 7A302
- AirPods 4: 7A304
Apple usually doesn’t share details about what’s new in each version of AirPods firmware. The AirPods Firmware update is expected to be released for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4 to support new features in iOS 18.
Especially AirPods Pro 2 which comes with features of Hearing Aid, Hearing Protection, etc.
In addition to AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, on October 22, 2024, an AirPods Firmware update was released for other AirPods models as follows.
- AirPods 2: 6F21
- AirPods Pro 1: 6F21
- AirPods 3: 6F21
- AirPods Max (electric): 6F21
The AirPods Firmware uses Build Number 6F21, updated from 6A326.
Of course, Apple has not specified what changes the new AirPods firmware will bring. But this is expected to fix bugs and improve general performance.

Users of supported AirPods models can update the firmware to the latest version by connecting the headphones to their iPhone, iPad, or Mac and the system will update automatically.
You can see the firmware version of your AirPods at Settings > Bluetooth > select the connected AirPods > scroll down to the bottom where the firmware version number will be displayed.
