In early 2020, Kamera & Bild wrote that Apple will probably release a new performance version of 14-inch MacBook Pro, aimed at, among others, photographers – together with the return of SD card reader, MagSafe connector and several USB C sockets.
Now we know that is the case. The presumed the M2 chip was instead called both M1 Pro and M1 Max, and now sits in both the new MacBook Pro 14 inch and MacBook Pro 16 inch. The almost two-year-old 16-inch version with Intel processor thus gets a performance update with optional version with Apple Silicon M1 Pro or M1 Max.

The new MacBook Pro models support up to four external monitors. Among other things, the M1 Max will be able to play back up to 7 video streams in 8K ProRes6.
