Apple surprised users on Thursday with a round of operating system updates for its devices, including iOS 17.3.1. The update comes with a rare bug fix that addresses the periodic duplication of text. While the patch notes for all the releases are brief, mentioning only general bug fixes, the iOS and iPadOS updates specifically mention the fix for duplicated or overlapping user-entered text during typing.
The iOS and iPadOS updates hold build number 21D61, which is an increment from the previous iOS 17.3 build (21D50). Similarly, macOS 14.3.1 now has build number 23D60, and watchOS is updated to build number 21S651.
Although there are no new features introduced in these updates, it is not uncommon for sub-point updates to focus on bug fixes rather than adding new functionalities. In the previous iOS 17.3 update, Apple had introduced Stolen Device Protection and brought back collaborative playlists for Apple Music.
Users can easily update their devices over-the-air if they are compatible with the latest updates. For manual updates to iOS 17.3.1 or iPadOS 17.3.1, users need to open the Settings app, go to General, and select Software Update. If the update is available for their device, they can tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions to install it. Similarly, to update to macOS Sonoma 14.3.1, users can open the System Settings app, select General, and then Software Update. If the update is available, they can click on “update now” and follow the on-screen instructions.
As of now, no additional fixes have been discovered, but AppleInsider will continue to update their post if any new information arises.
Apple’s dedication to providing regular software updates showcases their commitment to improving user experience and addressing any issues that may arise. By promptly fixing bugs and releasing updates, Apple ensures that their devices remain reliable and efficient for their users. So, make sure to update your Apple devices to iOS 17.3.1 or iPadOS 17.3.1 to enjoy a smoother and bug-free experience.
