Apple Releases iOS 16.6.1, iPadOS, watchOS 9.6.2, macOS Ventura and 13.5.2 to Fix Two Serious Security Flaws

Apple has tonight launched iOS 16.6.1, iPadOS, watchOS 9.6.2, macOS Ventura and 13.5.2.

Two serious security flaws exploited

The iOS 16.6.1 update fixes a bug that allowed hackers to create a dangerous image that could in turn run malicious code on the iPhone. The error is more specifically related to “Image I/O” which allows the OS to read and write image formats and provides access to the image’s metadata. Apple states that the bug “may have been actively exploited.

The second flaw involves exploiting attachments that can also run malicious code with the company’s wallet app. The company says that this flaw may also have been exploited.

The first bug is also fixed in macOS Ventura 13.5.2, but not the wallet bug. watchOS 9.6.2 also fixes the wallet bug, but not the I/O bug related to photos.
