It looks like the final version of iOS 17 that was released this Monday may have contained some security flaws. Apple promptly released the iOS 17.0.1 package, which, according to Apple, “brings important bug fixes and security updates.” You should also download the update immediately.

According to the official information the update fixes three relatively large security holes that first appeared already in iOS 16 and were fixed in one of the subversions, namely iOS 16.7. However, iOS 17.0.1 brings “security improvements” to two of them, while the third has an authentication issue that protects against previously discovered bugs.
How specifically can these errors endanger users and their devices? The first of them appeared in the core of the operating system (kernel) and allowed local attackers to increase the permissions to manipulate the device.

The second error related to protection against malware and other dangerous applications. “A malicious application may have been able to bypass signature verification. Apple is aware of reports that this issue may have been actively exploited against iOS versions prior to iOS 16.7,” says Apple in the update entry on the official website. In addition to the new iOS 17.0.1 and, of course, iPadOS 17.0.1, Apple also released the watchOS 10.0.1 update, which is carried out in a similar corrective spirit. Apple again states in the log that watchOS 10 contained two of the three bugs mentioned above.
The availability of new updates is the same as the original versions. Therefore, you install iOS 17.0.1 on iPhone XR and higher, or iPhone SE 2nd generation and later. iPadOS 17.0.1 on iPad Pro 2nd generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, or iPad mini 5th generation and later.
