Apple has issued an emergency update to fix a serious bug found in iPhones that enables hackers to use these bugs to take over your device.
Apple says there are two bugs that allow rogue apps to “execute arbitrary code via some of the privileges allowed in the new vulnerability.”
Announcement
This means hackers can use the apps to target important parts of your iPhone, hacking encrypted apps like WhatsApp, where they can track your movements and watch you.
Apple is reticent to give more details so that the problem is not actively exploited by fraudsters.
These vulnerabilities are called “zero-day vulnerabilities,” meaning that the bug existed and was likely exploited before a fix was available, and it is not yet known what its consequences might be.
But it is possible to correct the vulnerabilities only by updating the phone, and the new update is called “iOS 16.6.1”, so you should upgrade your phone very soon to avoid cybersecurity risks.
