The chip is said to be used in 2025.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Apple is reportedly working chip which provides cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions simultaneously on their devices. According to a Bloomberg report, the company is also developing its own chip that will replace the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips it currently uses from Broadcom. Reports say it could start being used in devices in 2025.
Bloomberg said Apple will be using their own modem in late 2024 or early 2025. Apple appears to be starting with using modem customized into a single product and the complete transition over a period of approximately three years.
Bloomberg also shared some new insights into Apple’s efforts to develop its own cellular modem to replace Qualcomm. While Qualcomm recently said during its fourth quarter 2022 earnings that it expects to have a “majority” of 5G modems for iphone 2023.
When asked for comment, Qualcomm spokeswoman Clare Conley referred to the company’s fourth-quarter earnings statement. “For revenue from Apple, we expect to benefit from 5G modems for iPhone launches in 2023, more than previous estimates by about 20%. Additionally, there are no changes to our planning assumptions and we estimate a minimal contribution from Apple products in fiscal 2025,” she said, quoted from the page The Vergo, Tuesday (10/1/2023).
It’s not yet clear when the combined cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth chip might be released in the iPhone. Whereas currently an internal cellular modem is still being developed. Apple and Broadcom have not yet responded to the news.
