The renewal cycle of Apple computers continues, although it does so in a somewhat diffuse way. Their laptops are the ones that are receiving the most love, but in January we also saw the renewal of the Mac mini. Now it seems that it is the turn of other promising members of his catalog.
iMac. According to Bloomberg, the next iMac is in “an advanced stage of development.” These All-in-Ones will keep the same 24-inch screen and the same colors, but they will be more powerful and will use a different chip than the Apple M1 of the devices that were presented in 2021. They are expected to be launched in the second half of the year 2023. The question, of course, is whether this chip will be the expected and promising Apple M3, and everything indicates that the company will take advantage of these chips to debut on these computers.
MacBook Air. Also striking are the news about Apple’s ultralight laptops, which could appear even earlier, in late spring or summer 2023. The 2022 MacBook Air with the M2 chip could now be seen updated with a special difference: next to the traditional model of 13-inch, a 15-inch MacBook Air is expected to arrive as well. It is not clear what chip they will use, but it seems logical to think that the Apple M3 will again be the protagonist of this range.
Mac Pro. The appearance of the Mac Studio left the expected Mac Pro in a somewhat strange situation, but according to Bloomberg Apple is finally preparing the launch of the Mac Pro. It will theoretically arrive with the M2 Ultra chip with 24 CPU cores and up to 76 GPU cores, in addition the option to configure it with up to 192 GB of unified memory.
The Apple M3 is the real star. The current Apple M2 has been revealed as a modest iteration of the revolutionary M1, but things can get very interesting again with the Apple M3. The reason is none other than the photolithographic leap: these chips will use 3 nanometer technology as opposed to the 5 nanometer technology used until now.
That means more power for the same energy consumption and much more leeway to offer really promising chips in both efficiency and performance. The M2 was introduced at WWDC last year, so perhaps that script will be repeated at this year’s event.
¿MacBook Touch? In Bloomberg they even venture to anticipate launches in the more distant future. They talk about an iPad Pro with an M3 chip in the first half of 2024, but above all they indicate that the first MacBooks with an OLED touch screen will arrive in 2025, something that would certainly be a novelty. For Steve Jobs this type of equipment did not make sense, but things have changed for Apple.
