Apple postpones Find My network support for AirPods Pro and Max – Pictures and sound – News

Find My support for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max won’t be available when iOS 15 comes out, but “later this fall.” This is evident from a change on the page on which Apple mentions the features of the operating system.

It is already possible to use the Find My function to detect AirPods, but currently it works with bluetooth and the headphones must be within bluetooth range to be able to find them. With iOS 15, the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max will receive support for the crowdsourced Find My network and the devices can be detected if they are in close proximity to all devices that are part of it.

According to Apple’s description, this gives users a rough estimate of the location of the AirPods Pro or AirPods Max. This allows the user to get within Bluetooth range, after which sound can be played to find the headphones. On the American Apple website, the job description now an asterix, with the explanation that the feature will be available ‘later this fall’. It’s not clear why Apple is delaying the feature.

Apple announced iOS 15 in June. The new version of the mobile operating system will be released on Monday, September 20, and can be installed on all Apple smartphones running iOS 14, either the iPhone 6s or later. iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8 will also be released on Monday.
