Swedbank introduced Apple Pay payment options for online merchants in all three Baltic countries.
Now, when shopping on the Internet, buyers have the opportunity to pay not only with bank payment cards or an Internet banking solution, but also through an e-wallet – Apple Pay. Currently, all e-commerce users can use this option on their Apple devices when shopping at merchants that use the Swedbank EveryPay solution.
According to Valdis Vaišlia, head of Swedbank’s Money Management Department: “During the last three years, customers’ interest in making payments through Apple e-wallet has been very high. The number of payments increased 3.5 times in 2022 and reached 50 million payments. They already account for 20% of the total payments handled by Swedbank at points of sale. And a particularly rapid increase was observed just last year, when 627 million euros were transferred via Apple’s e-wallet. The now-introduced option also allows merchants to include Apple Pay in their e-commerce platforms, which will help customers pay for goods and services even more easily.”
Liene Perija, digital development director of Rimi Baltic emphasizes: “Rimi e-store, as one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Latvia, already offers customers various solutions for a more convenient everyday life, for example, the possibility of receiving an order in the evening of the same day, fast delivery in 29 minutes or fast delivery in 58 minutes. On the other hand, payments with Apple Pay in cooperation with Swedbank is another next step, which will make everyday life easier for customers, while continuing to develop the e-shop platform”.
Businesses who want to use Apple Pay payment options on their e-commerce platform must activate this option in Swedbank’s internet bank, while companies that do not yet have an e-commerce service contract must conclude an agreement on accepting online payments.
With the introduction of Apple Pay also for the company’s e-commerce platforms, Swedbank has completed the full Apple Pay implementation cycle. Since the end of 2019, individuals have been able to add Swedbank payment cards to their Apple devices and use the Apple Pay service. On the other hand, with the introduction of Apple Pay in Swedbank’s e-commerce solution, it gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to accept payments in their online stores as well.
Therefore, payments are available using Apple devices such as iPhone, Mac, MacBook, iPad – for secure authorization with Face ID, Touch ID or Apple Watch smart watch.
