Apple patents an Apple Watch with camera under the screen and Touch ID

Apple has innovated in some of the products it has recently launched in Spain, such as the MacBook with M1 or the iPad Air, inheriting the design of the iPad Pro. And many believe that when Apple starts a trend, it takes it to its final consequences. The last guinea pig of the firm would be el Apple Watch.

And it is that Apple’s smart watch has proven to be a success and it is his turn to improve. The latest patents relating to this watch, as we can see in Patently Apple, show an Apple Watch with a Touch ID button on one side. But this would not be the greatest novelty.

In addition to being the first Apple Watch with Touch ID, this would be the first in the world with a camera under the screen. This patent also includes the addition of this technology that is not yet popular worldwide.

The original patent details how this system would work. Regarding the screen, the patent theorizes about a Watch with a double layer screen, in such a way that the camera and the flash would only be visible when in use. A very similar operation, at least in terms of use, to what we have seen in other devices.

A pixel panel is placed above and below a layer with a matrix that changes the flow of light that arrives. In this way, if we need the camera that part of the screen can become transparent or, at least, allow light to enter so that the camera can capture it and thus take photos or videos.

Fingerprint reader?

On Touch ID, things are much simpler. Apple would follow the same steps that it has carried out with the iPad Air; the main button of the watch would have on its surface a fingerprint reader, just like the latest Apple tablet. The difference is that in this case the reader would be much smaller.

This decision can be controversial, as fingerprint readers are intended for larger surfaces. In this case, it would work for our fingers and for it to be functional, Apple would have to refine this technology very well.

As always, we must remember that you are they are nothing more than patents, that is, ideas that may not translate into actual products. However, Apple has already dared to innovate with some of its new products, so it would not be unusual for it to try again with its most successful watch. It is by no means, on the other hand, the first time that Apple has come up with these crazy patents.
