Apple partners with Alaska Airlines: iPad Pro for check-in

Travelers checking in for Alaska Airlines flights will now be able to use iPad Pros. Instead of self-check-in kiosks, the airline has installed iPad Pros on its lobby tables.

The airline has tested a new set of technological improvements to speed up the boarding process. iPad Pro check-in kiosks are a new idea that Alaska Airlines is testing at Norman Y. Mineta International Airport in San Jose. Speeding up boarding processes for travelers is Alaska Airlines’ main goal using this innovative technology.

According to Fast Company, Alaska Airlines was an early adopter of new technologies in the airline industry. In 1999, one of its passengers was the first person to check in for a flight over the Internet. The airline also replaced its flight manuals with iPads in 2011. Although the airline is an early adopter of these innovations, the process will not be quick.

The airline is expected to take about three years to fully introduce the use of iPad Pro for check-in. iPads will not be used at all airports as the company sometimes shares kiosks with other airlines. For this reason, it will be easier to launch this new product in some airports than in others, and so far, everything has gone well in San Jose.
