In the USA, the woman who took her Apple iPhone model smart phone to the authorized service won the legal fight she started after the private images on her device were leaked to the internet.
An unnamed woman sent her phone to Apple authorized service Pegatron Teknoloji Hizmetleri in California in 2016 for repair, according to the case file on the sharing of footage compiled by Diken.
Technicians working here uploaded the woman’s ‘highly personal and intimate content’ to her Facebook account. The images that seemed to be uploaded to the woman’s Facebook account on purpose caused the woman to experience ‘severe emotional distress’.
FILED APPLE
The woman, who learned the situation through the notification of her friends who saw the video and photos on her Facebook account, sued Apple and eventually agreed to the settlement in return for a million-dollar payment.
To keep the matter private, the case file, which did not include Apple’s name, came to light recently after reference was made to it in another lawsuit, also involving Apple and Pegatron.
Speaking to the Guardian, an Apple official confirmed the incident, while a company spokesperson said, “When we learned of this appalling violation of our policies at one of our authorized dealers in 2016, we took immediate action and have continued to strengthen our vendor protocols ever since.”
