Gadget – Positive signs are visible in the global smartphone market, which shows a solid recovery. According to data from IDC and Canalys, leading mobile phone trackers and research companies, the smartphone market’s year-on-year (yoy) growth reached 8.5 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
Surprisingly, Apple managed to break Samsung’s 13-year dominance by establishing itself as the leader of the global smartphone market.
Although global smartphone shipments decreased by 3.2 percent year-on-year, there was a significant increase in sales, reaching 326 million units in Q4 2023 compared to 300 million units in Q4 2022. This marked the end of seven consecutive quarters of decline.
Reporting from Gizmochina on Wednesday (17/1/2024), Apple achieved complete dominance in the entire smartphone market throughout 2023 and also in Q4. With shipments of 80.5 million units in the fourth quarter and a total of 234 million units throughout the year, Apple tops the market with a 20.1 percent share in 2023.
Samsung is second with nearly 226 million shipments and a market share of 19.4 percent. Although Samsung experienced a 10 percent decline in shipments in Q4 2023 compared to the same period the previous year, Apple and Transsion recorded positive growth of 3.7 and 30.8 percent, respectively.
Xiaomi is in third place with a market share of 12.5 percent, followed by OPPO and Transsion in fourth and fifth with market shares of 8.8 and 8.1 percent respectively.
