Apple officially releases iPhone 15 which brings a series of updates, from USB Type-C to customizable action buttons.
The USB Type-C port is the most striking update of the iPhone 15. With this update, users only need to carry one cable to charge Macbooks, Airpods, iPads and iPhones.
“USB C has become a universally accepted standard, so we brought USB C to iPhone 15. USB C enables charging, transferring data, playing audio and video, and has been in Apple products for years,” said Kaiann Drance, VP iPhone Product Marketing at the Apple Event, Wednesday (13/9).
“Now the same cable can charge Macs, iPads, iPhones, and even second generation Airpods Pro, which have been updated with a USB C connector,” he continued.
The USB Type-C port even allows users to reverse charge or charge other devices with the iPhone
“If your Air pods run out of power, you can charge your Air pods or even your Apple Watch directly from your iPhone,” Kaiann said.
Apart from USB Type-C, Apple also presents the Dynamic Island feature for all iPhone 15 models. Previously, this feature, which Apple introduced in 2022, was only available for the Pro variant.
Dynamic Island will also receive an update that allows users to track pizza deliveries, departure gates at airports, and even view football match scores.
On the screen, the iPhone 15 is equipped with a 6.1 inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7 inch screen. Both have Super Retina XDR screens with a maximum brightness of up to 2,000 nits when outdoors.
This screen is given a ceramic shield layer as protection which is also water and dust resistant. Apple claims this layer is stronger than the protective layer on other cellphones.
In the camera department, these two variants receive updates to the main camera. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are now equipped with a 48MP main camera which has 2x optical zoom capability.
The performance of this cellphone is supported by the A16 Bionic chipset which was previously used for the iPhone 14 Pro.
Apple has also embedded a number of new features on its newest cellphone, one of which is a feature for emergency situations called “roadside assistance via satellite.”
This technology allows users to ask for help via satellite when experiencing problems on the road and losing signal.
Apart from that, Apple has also embedded second generation Ultra Wideband technology which increases location search accuracy. With this feature, users can search for the location of other users who share their location more easily.
iPhone 15 Pro
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max variants come with a sturdier body made from titanium.
These two cellphones are equipped with the A17 Pro chipset which comes with a 3 nanometer fabrication. The A17 Pro chipset is claimed to be the first 3 nanometer fabricated chipset in the cellphone industry.
This chipset has 19 billion transistors which are used to increase performance, efficiency and various features of the iPhone 15 Pro. This chipset is even able to bring console games such as Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 to mobile phones.
On the camera front, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have a 48MP lens like the iPhone 15, but with more zoom. The iPhone 15 Pro offers 3x optical zoom, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has up to 5x optical zoom.
Video capture has also improved with a maximum resolution of up to 4K and 60 fps.
The iPhone 15 Pro is also said to be the only cellphone that supports the Academy Color Encoding System or ACES.
“iPhone 15 Pro will be the first smartphone in the world to support the Academy Color Encoding System or ACES, a global standard for color workflows. Making it easier for filmmakers to use iPhone in their productions,” said Greg Jozwiak, SVP Worldwide Marketing.
“The iPhone 15 Pro camera system pushes the boundaries of what you can capture with a smartphone,” he added.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are also equipped with action buttons that can be customized as a replacement for the silent button. This button can do many things, from starting a voice note, opening the camera or other application, or triggering silent mode.
