Apple officially introduces iPad mini 7

Apple presented the seventh generation iPad mini today without an event and only via press release. The manufacturer is bringing the compact tablet onto the market primarily to be able to offer an iPad mini with support for Apple Intelligence. The new Apple Pencil Pro can also be used in conjunction with the new iPad mini, which has a Liquid Retina with a screen diagonal of 8.3 inches.

Unlike the iPad Air and iPad Pro, Apple did not include an M chip in the iPad mini. Instead, the small tablet is powered by the A17 Pro processor. The American technology group is using a CPU from last year for its iPad compact model and not even the A18 chip known from the iPhone 16 series.

For the CPU, Apple cites a performance increase of 30 percent compared to the previous iPad mini, and the graphics performance is 25 percent better than the iPad mini 6.

The SIM card slot is history

The new iPad mini supports Wi-Fi 6E. The Cellular models have an eSIM. As with the current iPad Pro and iPad Air models, there is no longer a slot for physical SIM cards. The USB-C port is up to two times faster than the previous generation of devices and enables data transfers at up to 10 Gbit/s.

The tablet has a 12 megapixel front and rear camera. According to Apple, the tablet was developed with the environment in mind. It contains 100 percent recycled aluminum in the housing, 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, as well as 100 percent recycled gold and 100 percent recycled solder for plating multiple circuit boards.

Pre-orders for the iPad mini 7 are now possible. Delivery starts on Wednesday, October 23rd. The basic model with WiFi and 128 GB of storage space costs 599 euros in Germany. The Cellular versions are available at prices starting at 769 euros. In addition to 128 GB, the tablet is also available with 256 and 512 GB of storage. Blue, violet, polar star and space gray are available as color variants.

In another message we reported on the current beta version of iOS 18.1.
