Apple obstructs updating an application for e-mail in order to protect children

The Wall Street Journal, citing communications between Apple and developers of an email app, reported that the iPhone maker had delayed approving an app update with artificial intelligence tools due to concerns that it would create content inappropriate for children.

Ben Volach, co-founder of Blix, the developer of the Blue Mail app, told the newspaper that “last week an update to the app was blocked using a dedicated version of the GPT-3 language model developed by OpenA. any”.

He added that “Apple” unfairly targets “Blue Mail” and that the application contains content filtering. It is possible that raising the minimum ages allowed to use the application will reduce the reach of potential new users.

Apple said it was looking into the complaint and that developers had an opportunity to appeal its decision to the App Review Board.
