A week after the public release of iOS 18.1, Apple ended the signing of iOS 18.0.1. This now prevents iPhone and iPad users from reverting to the previous version of iOS, or restoring a device to that version.
One less minor version
iOS 18.0.1, the first minor update for iOS 18, brought numerous bug fixes as well as performance and security improvements. As for iOS 18.1, released on October 31, it introduces Apple Intelligence features (for US users) like redaction tools, summary function and cleanup in the Photos app. iOS 18.1 also fixed several security flaws, including a vulnerability in Siri that allowed attackers to access sensitive data.
Why go back to an earlier version?
Some users choose to revert to a previous version of iOS to fix bugs present in the latest update or to jailbreak their device. However, there is currently no jailbreak tool for iOS 18.
For those still using iOS 17, Apple continues to offer security updates without requiring an upgrade to iOS 18, such as iOS 17.7.1.
