When music streaming services first appeared, publishers and artists “fought” the concept mainly because of the price these platforms wanted to pay. However, Apple Music has always had a more “generous” and defensive position in this market. Even today, according to the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino company pays better than Spotify,
It is curious to know that Apple Music pays a dollar every time the subscribers listen to the music.
Apple Music pays twice as much for Spotify
In a Wall Street Journal publication, it was known that the Apple pays a dime for transmission whenever subscribers hear the song.
It may seem like a very residual value, but in fact, it is significantly superior to other services, including Spotify, its biggest competitor and the biggest streaming service.
Spotify launched a website last month to defend its fees, bragging about paying "over 23 billion royalties to rights holders ”in 2020. However, that's less than half a penny per stream.
Unlike Apple Music, Spotify offers a free tier backed by ads that help pay for royalties. Additionally, the service has many more users, leading the company to state that "the average Spotify subscriber listens to more music per month than other services."
It also claims its service is "more popular in countries with lower prices," which lowers the overall rate per stream.
Increasingly Popular Music Streaming Services
Apple didn't say what their country's variable rates are, just that they said they were on average one cent per flow. Apple Music is available in over 165 countries, so some countries will probably pay more than a dime per feed.
Apple Music is estimated to have around 70 million subscriberss, although as of June 2019 the numbers have not been revealed, at the time it only announced that it had passed 60 million users.
Regarding Spotify, this service has revealed to have 155 million subscribers to the Premium model in 2020, in addition to over 200 million in the free version.
Apple Music costs € 6.99 / month for the individual plan and € 10.99 / month for families. As of last year, it's also available as part of the Apple One packages.
