The board of the Apple Museum in Westerbork has decided to stop and close its doors. Due to the corona crisis and the shortage of volunteers, it is not possible to keep the museum running. The objects of the museum go to two new owners.
The Apple Museum can’t go on anymore writes RTV Drenthe, because due to the corona crisis too few visitors visit the museum and because there are no more volunteers to keep it running. Because the costs have continued in recent months, the door has to be closed.
Among other things, the museum owned a working Apple Lisa, Apple’s flopped first computer with icon control. The computers and other objects that were in the museum will be housed with two new owners. Part goes to the Oyfo technology museum in Hengelo, the other part goes to Amac director Ed Bindels, who is working on the largest Apple museum in Europe in Utrecht.
Dozens of Apple computers were set up in the museum in working condition, on which even old games could be played. All computers were donated to the museum. The museum aspired not only to be a museum where visitors could see the computers, but also experience them. The museum was run by a foundation.
