As tech enthusiasts around the world wait to see Apple’s mixed reality headset or its new AR/VR operating system in person, a new report claimed on Tuesday that the tech giant is unlikely to tech announces it at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is set to launch on June 6.
In a series of tweets, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that he expects the tech giant’s headset to launch in 2023.
“It’s still a while before the Apple AR/MR headset goes into mass production, so I don’t think Apple will launch the AR/MR headset and rumored reality OS at WWDC this year. Apple’s competitors around the world are eager to see the hardware specifications and design operating system for Apple’s AR/MR headset,” Kuo wrote on the microblogging platform.
“I’m sure that if Apple announces the AR/MR headset and its operating system at WWDC, competitors will immediately start copying projects and happily copy Apple’s great ideas, and hit store shelves before Apple’s 2023 launch,” Kuo added.
A recent report stated that the realityOS appeared in a trademark filing, “which was not officially filed by Apple but it is common for large companies to apply for trademarks under a single company.”
Headsets powered by realityOS will be able to deliver a combination of AR/VR experiences, immersing users in virtual content as well as overlaying virtual elements onto real-world environments.
Earlier this month, the company’s board reportedly tested the wearable device which is common practice ahead of a public launch.
The AR headset should sport a sleek design so that it is lightweight and comfortable for the wearer to move around for long periods of time.
