“Apple may face ban from EU market due to unified charger mandate”

The European Union (EU) has gone to war with the electronics manufacturer Apple. And that’s because of the unified charger that all small electronic devices will have to have next year. But Apple doesn’t like that. According to the European Commission (EC), he could even be banned from supplying his products to the EU market.

On the one hand, the European Union, which insists that all electronic devices have a single charging terminal, on the other, Apple. “We have been fighting this battle for a long time, unfortunately Apple is the only company that does not want to agree to those conditions yet,” said the member of the European Parliament Dita Charanzová (for ANO).

“It is absolutely clear that Apple, like any other company, will have to fulfill the requirements of European legislation. And I believe that this will also happen,” says MEP Marcel Kolaja (Pirates).

According to American media, Apple has let it be known that it will comply with the regulation. But a little in my own way. Fast charging of your devices will only be possible with a certified and company-made cable. However, according to the European Commission, this is not possible. “Preventing or limiting the performance of devices when charging with another charger will not be allowed under the directive. Any manufacturer that behaves in this way will not be allowed to enter the European market,” said Eurocommissioner Thierry Breton.

The regulation applies not only to telephones, but to all small electronic devices. That is, for tablets, headphones or e-readers. Apple has been protesting against it for many years.

“We are concerned that strict regulation, which mandates only one type of connector, inhibits innovation instead of encouraging it. This will ultimately harm consumers not only in Europe, but around the world,” Apple believes. Phones will have to have a single USB-C charger from the end of 2024. Laptops two years later.
