Move playlists
Apple allows you to transfer playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music. The “Data and Privacy” website now offers a direct export.
Apple has introduced a new feature that allows Apple Music users to transfer their playlists to YouTube Music. This new feature makes switching between the two music streaming services much easier and ensures that users don’t lose their carefully created playlists.
Apple Music’s new export feature allows users to transfer their own created playlists to YouTube Music. This is done through Apple’s Data and Privacy website (privacy.apple.com), where users can request a copy of their data. The process is relatively simple, but requires an active Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription and an active YouTube Music account. Child accounts and managed Apple IDs are not supported.
The transfer process begins on the Data & Privacy website, where users select the option to “Transfer a copy of your data.” They must then log in to their YouTube Music account and confirm the export. Apple will notify users via email about the status of the transfer, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the number of playlists.
Restrictions and special features
Only playlists created by the user themselves will be transferred, including collaborative playlists. Music files, shared playlists that are not collaborative, and curated playlists and folder structures will not be transferred. Only songs that are also available on YouTube Music will be included in the new playlists. Changes to the playlists after the transfer will not be synchronized, and the export will not delete the playlists on Apple Music.
Compared to previous models, where users had to use third-party apps like Songshift to transfer playlists, Apple’s new feature offers a more direct and user-friendly solution. While Songshift and similar apps can still be useful, especially for transferring to other services like Spotify, Apple’s native solution represents a significant improvement.
The new export feature offers users several benefits. First, it makes switching between Apple Music and YouTube Music much easier without having to manually recreate playlists. Second, it ensures that users don’t lose their carefully curated music collections when switching services. Third, it saves time and effort as the transfer process is largely automated.
