Apple lost a lawsuit with a patent troll, threatening to leave the British market

Company Apple is suing everywhere and the companies around Optis Cellular Technology are quite successful in this. After all, these are patent trolls who do not produce anything, but collect patent fees (or are sued for infringing them). Last year, the PanOptis subsidiary won a lawsuit against Apple for patent infringement related to 4G LTE technology and sued $ 506 million. This time she set to work Optis Cellular Technology and she sneered a lot at Apple. These are to be two patents in connection with standardized technologies used to connect to 3G and 4G networks. Optis requires Apple to pay royalties of 7 miliard USD (CZK 152 million). Apple, for example, has roughly as much revenue (not profits) for a quarter of a year of iPad sales in the rich pre-Christmas season.

The UK Supreme Court ruled last year that British courts could order Apple to pay for worldwide use of a patent, even though it only infringes British patents. Apple could get rid of the charges if it left the British market and threatened to do so. The fees are so high that he is considering accepting them or leaving the UK market. The conditions set by the court are commercially unacceptable for the company. Others, on the other hand, think it’s just a cover-up and Apple won’t leave Britain. Optis’s lawyer added that everyone has Apple as a leader in smartphone technology, but in reality only buys most of the technology.
