Apple Launches New Beta OS, Can Use Face ID Even When Wearing a Mask

Face ID that recognizes masks has become a much-requested feature since the start of the pandemic.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Apple has just released a new Operating System (OS) which brings a number of new features. iOS Beta 15.4 provides the ability to unlock the phone with Face ID when wearing a mask. While iOS 15.4 on iPad and Mac 12.3 provides a delayed feature, namely Universal Control or Universal Control.

Face ID that recognizes masks has become a much-requested feature since the start of the pandemic. In April 2020, a feature was first reported that would drop users into a password input screen when the phone recognizes the mask. Last February, the iOS 14.5 developer beta brought the ability to unlock connected Apple Watch phones.

The new beta version of the operating system finally delivers the features people have been asking for. Once activated, the phone will use the features around the eyes to determine if it’s the right user. However, without the entire face, the readings are less accurate and potentially less secure.

Reported TechCrunch, Friday (28/1), meanwhile on iPad and Mac, the company finally launched the beta version of Universal Control. The feature was heavily requested by people in the last year and has suffered significant delays.

Universal Control is a kind of alternative to Sidecar, which will automatically share mouse and keyboard cursors between your Mac and iPad. Users can also grab content on a single device and drag and drop it between machines.

Also new to iOS are a number of additional emojis, including a heart hand, biting lip, and pregnant mom. The beta version is available starting Thursday (27/1) and there is no information on final consumer availability yet.
