Apple has distributed its first ‘rapid security response’ for iOS devices on Monday, a patch that seeks to correct a bug quickly before the arrival of a major software update and is available for the latest version of its operating systems.
The ‘quick security answers’ were announced at Apple’s annual developer conference last year, as one of the new features that iOS 16 would bring. Its purpose is to offer important security fixes before the arrival of an update of ‘ larger software.
This Monday the company has launched its first ‘quick security response’ for iPhone phones, although it is a feature available for iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1 and macOS 13.3.1, as reported on the Support page.
Apple allows the user to decide if they want these quick fixes to be installed or prefer to wait for the ‘software’ update. If you choose to install it, at the time it’s applied you’ll see a letter after the software version number, for example, macOS 13.3.1 (a).
The premiere of ‘rapid security responses’ has been bumpy. As collected in the specialized portal The Verge, users who at first could see the update notice and decided to install it, found a message that indicated the following: “The security response could not be verified. The iOS 16.4.1 (a) security response failed verification because you are no longer connected to the Internet.”
The problem seems to have been widespread and the company fixed it soon after, so that the security response could be installed without further problems and within a few seconds.
