Apple Launches Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices Apps to Replace iTunes on Windows
Apple has officially launched its Apple TV, Apple Music, and Apple Devices apps on Windows, marking a significant move away from the reliance on iTunes for Windows users. The apps were initially released in preview last year but have now been fully launched after collaboration between Apple and Microsoft. The goal is to provide a seamless experience for Windows users and encourage them to transition away from iTunes.
The trio of apps, along with an updated iCloud for Windows app, offer a range of features that make iTunes unnecessary for most tasks. According to MacRumors, if users already have access to Apple TV, Apple Music, and Apple Devices, they will only need iTunes for podcasts and audiobooks on Windows.
The Apple Music app allows users to access the iTunes library and make song and album purchases. Additionally, the Apple TV app enables Windows users to watch movies and TV shows from their iTunes library, as well as enjoy subscription streaming content. Lastly, the Apple Devices app provides PC owners with the ability to back up or restore iPhones and iPads, as well as sync content to these devices.
Microsoft has been actively collaborating with Apple on these apps and has expressed its support for their launch. In fact, Microsoft had previously integrated iCloud Photos into Windows, allowing users to link their iCloud Photos library directly into the built-in Photos app on Windows 11.
It’s important to note that these new Apple apps are currently only available on traditional x86-based PCs running either Windows 10 or Windows 11. There is no indication yet of ARM64 versions for Qualcomm-powered Windows devices.
This move by Apple signifies a shift in its strategy towards providing a more integrated and seamless experience for Windows users. By replacing iTunes with dedicated apps for music, TV, and device management, Apple aims to enhance user satisfaction and convenience. With Microsoft’s support and collaboration, this transition is expected to be smooth and well-received by Windows users.
As Apple continues to expand its ecosystem beyond its own devices, it is clear that the company is committed to catering to a wider audience and ensuring compatibility across different platforms. The launch of these new apps on Windows further solidifies Apple’s position as a leading provider of digital media and device management solutions.
