‘Apple is working on a competitor of Nintendo Switch’

According to a wild rumor from Asia, Apple has plans to market a handheld that would be similar in concept to the Nintendo Switch. The rumor was published on one Korean forum and it is therefore difficult to estimate how reliable the source is.

Apple’s handheld would be powered by a new Apple soc and would not use an existing A or M series chip. This chip is said to focus specifically on gaming and has a powerful GPU with support for ray tracing. Apple is currently in talks with several publishers about game development for the platform, including Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry creator Ubisoft.

Nothing else is known about the design of the handheld. Should the device actually exist, it is obvious that it is equipped with integrated controllers, because otherwise it would not be much more than an iPad. It is completely unthinkable, because according to the usually well-informed Bloomberg, a new Apple TV is under development with a greater focus on gaming. This model would be powered by the A14X-soc, while the recently introduced second-generation Apple TV 4K is powered by the outdated A12 Bionic. It may be that the device has been deleted or appears at a later time.

There are also rumors that the company is working on its own controller. It should be noted that there have been rumors for years that Apple has an interest in gaming, but to date it has never resulted in a product that is specifically made for gamers.
