Apple is working on 100% borderless MacBook Pros

Apple listened to its fans who complained about the thick bezels around the MacBook display. Indeed, in 2021, the firm released the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro inches on which it has significantly reduced the thickness of these borders, in order to have a screen inspired by that of the iPhone (notch included).

Thus, on the 14-inch model, the screen is actually 14.2 inches thanks to this extension. And on the 16-inch model, the screen is 16.2 inches, with 7.7 million pixels (a number never reached on a MacBook).

But apparently Apple wants to go even further, as the company explores new technologies that would allow it to almost completely eliminate those borders. In an article published recently, our colleagues from Apple Insider relay an Apple patent entitled: “Hybrid architecture for a borderless display”.

Published on the website of the United States Patent Office, this document describes a technique which, if used, would allow Apple to eliminate the constraints which oblige it to put borders around the screens of its Macs, according to the explanations of ‘Apple Insider.

Afterwards, as usual, caution remains in order. Indeed, the existence of the patent does not confirm that Apple will actually use this technology. But in any case, it shows that the firm’s engineers are already looking for the next design evolution that could arrive on MacBooks.

In any case, laptops without borders around the screen should be unanimous among Apple fans. Let’s just hope that the firm will find a way to remove the notch by then, for example by placing the FaceTime camera on a bubble.

Edge-to-edge design should become mainstream on MacBooks

In any case, the design of the screen of the MacBook Pro should also arrive on the next MacBook Air. Indeed, after having completely revised the design of its MacBook Pro in 2021 (with new connectors and the notched screen), Apple should, this year, release new MacBook Air with a new design.

And according to rumors, when it comes to the screen, the design of these new MacBook Air should be very inspired by the 2021 MacBook Pro (notch included).

Normally, these new MacBook Air should use a new generation of Apple Silicon chip: the M2. And according to some sources, Apple could lift the veil on these during the WWDC conference which will be held from June 6 to 10.
