Apple is said to be abandoning plans for a high-end Mac Pro with an “Extreme” M2 processor due to cost and complexity concerns.
Rumors and reports have been circulating about Apple’s upcoming computer products for some time. While we’ve received a report about it, we also have an update for the upcoming Mac Pro, which will now be delayed thanks to a change in its processor.
Early reports of the Mac Pro sporting a processor, and there have also been reports of the M2 “Extreme” model. Now, two months later, things have changed and Apple seems to be heading in a different direction. Bloomberg reports that there are a number of reasons for the delay, with a number of different reasons holding back production of the Mac Pro.
He points out that Apple has dropped the idea of an “Extreme” version, primarily due to how complex the version is to make and how expensive it is to produce. Another factor is Apple wondering how much consumers will pay for the next Mac Pro model. If it were to arrive and cost north of $10,000, it would be for a very select group of buyers—frankly, the Mac Pro always has been.
As for manufacturing the next Pro model, Apple is likely to produce the high-end desktop in Vietnam. Over the past year, Apple has experimented with the production of some of its other products, such as. If that happens, it could be a big move for the company to move more operations out of China. Currently, Apple produces AirPods in Vietnam.
In addition to the Mac Pro, Apple is also preparing a new Mac Mini. We’ve been hearing about the 14-inch and 16-inch M2 MacBook Pro model for some time now, which will feature M2 Pro and M2 Max options. The laptops are about to debut.
