Apple is preparing for a huge switchover with the new iPhone

Most of us have heard, or maybe even asked, “Does anyone have an iPhone charger?” According to the latest rumors, this may soon be one of the phenomena known to the younger generation only from the stories of the older ones, which should be shown in the same way as the unmistakable sound of the old dial-up modem.

As it is Phone Arena also wrotethat Apple is not expected to use the Lightning connector port used to charge devices for the iPhone 15 promised next year, instead will switch to the USB-C connector already used on Android phones. The magazine reminds: Apple does not voluntarily give up the custom charging system used on its smartphones since 2012, but because the European Union is expected to ban manufacturers of electronic devices from using custom connectors on their devices later this year and oblige all manufacturers to switch to USB-C, thereby also reducing the amount of electronic waste accumulating on the continent.

The argument is simple: USB-C is currently the most common type of connector, allowing it to charge devices much faster than Apple’s Lightning connector, and allowing faster data transfer than a USB-2.0 Lightning cable. It would also make sense for Apple to switch, as the company has been using USB-C connectors on iPads and MacBooks for five years. But the Lightning adapter is expected to be added to the iPhone 14, which is expected to hit the market this fall.

The Lightning port was first used by Apple on the iPhone 5. It is expected that we will no longer find such a socket on the bottom of the iPhone 15, but a USB-Cs input.

If you already have to switch, Apple may also disconnect the Lightning connection for smartphone accessories;a According to The Next Web USB-C can also be used to charge Airpods, Apple wireless mice and keyboards in the future; including more than one billion devices, including iPhones. This seems a logical step, because if the change is introduced in other parts of the product range, in the end, a single cable may be enough to charge each apple device. At the same time, of course, it could mean that one billion Apple devices with Lightning connectors will land in the trash after their owners decide to replace them with machines that receive cable that meets the new standard.

For Apple, the transition could also have undeniable benefits. Experts say the USB-C cable can charge iPhones much faster than the current Lightning connector cable. TNW cites the example of Xiaomi’s smartphone, which costs less than $ 400 and can be charged in just 15 minutes, compared to the more than $ 1,000 iPhone 13 Pro, whose battery can currently be charged in an average of 1 hour 55 minutes.

While Apple’s USB 2.0-compliant Lightning connector can transfer approximately 60 MB of data per second between devices, the USB-C compliant USB 3.1 and 3.2 cables provide data transfer speeds. can be easily increased to 5-20 gigabits per second.

The move could, of course, put Apple’s current and potential suppliers in a position, as if the company actually replaces the Lightning connector with USB-C connectors, demand for new cables could jump from one moment to the next.
