Apple, in cooperation with its partners, is developing full-screen iPhones with a hidden camera under the screen.
The beginning of the hidden camera development process. Add an announcement
LG Innotek has begun the first development of the camera hidden under the screen, to add the front camera without a clear hole in the screen, according to the “Hashtag Arabic” website.
Developing an “under-screen camera” represents a major challenge. Because it sends less light to the camera sensor, some of the light is lost as it passes through the screen panel before reaching the camera lens.
Traditional front cameras and light reception
This differs from traditional front cameras, which receive light directly without any obstacles, but they occupy space on the screen, either in the form of a “notch” or a hole, as is the case in all smartphones now.
LG Innotek is working to overcome this problem by developing a special multi-lens system that can reduce optical aberrations and increase the proportion of light intensity around the camera sensor to improve image quality.
Patent filed for multiple lens system
The company registered a patent for this technology at the end of last year, and it is expected to witness further improvement as the development process begins.
LG Display, another company also affiliated with the LG Group, has begun developing screen panels that allow light transmittance to increase to 20% during 2023, and that percentage will rise to 40% after 2024.
Facial recognition system under the screen
Reports indicate that Apple will include the Face ID system under the screen during the next year 2025 in the iPhone 17 Pro phones, after which the company will switch to using the camera under the screen.
