Apple iPhone 15: The Biggest Innovation Yet with the Planned Switch to USB-C

Apple iPhone, which has recently attracted attention not only with its innovations but also with its high prices in the Turkish market, is preparing to sign another innovation with its new model. Apple, which always stands out from other brands with its unique charging port, and is sometimes at the center of criticism due to this special cable, is preparing to come up with a global solution this time.

TECHNOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES WILL BE HUGE

The technological differences between each member of the iPhone 15 family will be greater than ever before. For example, the 15 Ultra will have a periscope lens, while the standard iPhone 15 is expected to see a camera setup similar to its predecessor, the 14 Pro. However, according to the rumors that started to spin loudly in the backstage, Apple is preparing to make the biggest change in this series in the charging port and cable. The intelligence that the brand will replace its proprietary ‘Lightning Port’ with USB-C in the new model iPhone 15 is getting stronger.

WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW THE LAW

While the US technology giant Apple continued to be the only manufacturer that did not offer the USB-C port as standard in new technology products, the company’s proprietary Lighning Bolt charging ports were offered as the trademark of iPhones. However, the European Union announced in October 2022 that it would enact a regulation requiring companies to include universal USB-C charging ports on all new technology products sold in EU countries by the end of 2024. While the regulation on the agenda tied Apple’s hands, the company announced that it would comply with it.

If the EU’s directive does not take effect until 2024, there is no legal requirement for Apple to comply with the rules by that date. But it is very likely that the company will take steps towards legislation that it knows will come into effect in the near future.

WHAT IS THIS USB-C?

Over the years we have seen different data transfer/charge inputs on devices. A journey from round-tipped charging ports to large USB ports and slimline USBs and then UCB type-C. At this point, USB-C has become the latest universal standard for wired connection of smart devices. Almost every new device purchased in 2023, from the best Android phone to laptop or speakers, has a port to support USB-C charging or data transfer.

WILL IT INCREASE CHARGING SPEED?

A USB-C connector has a total of 24 pins, 16 for data transfer, four for charging and four for ground pins. However, not every USB-C is a data standard. In other words, although the image is the same, not every cable is the same. That’s why you can’t tell how fast a particular USB-C cable is without looking at its corresponding number (indicating speed). There are a number of different types of USB-C cables, including USB 2.0, 3.0 and Thunderbolt 4. It is said that Apple’s new model will have USB-C ports that support data transfer rates from 480Mbps to 20Gbps or 40Gbps to offer both charging and data transfer at the highest level.
