Apple iPhone 12: Broadcom half-heartedly confirms delayed launch

Broadcom, Apple’s subcontractor for certain components of the iPhone, would have expected lower revenues for the third quarter of 2020 compared to the previous year. A consequence of the coronavirus epidemic which did not allow the apple company to launch its production on time.

We owe this information to Mark Gurman and Ian King, both journalists from Bloomberg. According to them, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan held a meeting with analysts earlier this week. In particular, it was said that there was a “Major delay in the production cycle at a large North American smartphone manufacturer”. However, journalists specify that Hock Tan often refers to Apple in these terms. There is therefore no real doubt, especially since multiple rumors have reported a delay on the production lines of the iPhone 12.

The boss of Broadcom does not worry about this delay. Its components for iPhone models would be ready and it would just be “A question of timing”. The subcontractor is only waiting for Apple to start producing its smartphones. However, this expectation will not be without losses. Hock Tan estimates that Broadcom will not see its sales increase before the fourth fiscal quarter, that is to say before the end of the year.

This information alone therefore practically confirms what we already suspected. The iPhone 12 should not be available for sale before October, or even November. They should be announced during a keynote in September, but their release would not be scheduled for the end of the same month, as we are used to. A fate reminiscent of that of the iPhone X which, if it had been announced in September 2017, was only released two months later.
