The standard edition of the iPad has traditionally been a breeze.
Where the iPad Pro is for people with special interests and the iPad Air is somewhere in between, it’s the regular iPad that offered the best value for money, the one you “quickly” take with you to the checkout. Elkjøp.
With the release of the iPad this fall, however, this is no longer applicable.
The new iPad (10th generation) isn’t the obvious purchase it was the previous generation, and now we’ll explain why.
Launch of new iPad models
Over 50 percent more
The previous iPad (9th generation) had a starting price of NOK 3,990. For NOK 4,000 you could get the best tablet experience without breaking the bank.
But like most companies these days, Apple has chosen to raise the price of the new iPad.
The starting price has now become NOK 6,290. In other words, it became 57.6% more expensive.
It can be a lot of money at a time when many of us have to save where possible due to more expensive electricity, food and fuel.
Even higher
The image is of course not so black and white. The regular iPad is still a great tablet.
There is also Apple who doesn’t need to do much with an iPad to make it the best tablet on the market. Unfortunately, someone will definitely say.
I’m sorry for Android fans and / or Apple haters, but there’s a reason there aren’t many Android tablets in Norwegian homes. Apple is in a class of its own when it comes to everything from performance and design, to build quality, ease of use and app selection.
Many welcome changes
In many ways, the new iPad is a long-awaited update. It has a completely new design. It’s not really new – both the iPad Pro, and the Air and Mini have it – but it’s new to this model. Colors are perhaps the most vibrant in the iPad family to date.
Who wouldn’t want a bright yellow or pink iPad? Relax, the rest of you can of course just go for the dull silver gray.
The new design without a Home button makes room for more screen than before, so Apple has increased the size from 10.2 to 10.9 inches. Even better for browsing, watching TV series, simple word processing and the like, which is what most people use it for.
The screen is not as elegant as on the more expensive models, for example it is not as bright and lacks an anti-reflective coating which makes it more prone to glare.
In return, this is the (first and) only iPad with a front-facing camera positioned so that it doesn’t look like a complete idiot in video calls.
Instead of being placed at the top in portrait mode, it is at the top in landscape mode (i.e. along the long side). To quote TikTok queen Lizzo, “it’s a damn moment”.
A bit of a stupid change
Apple has also replaced Lightning with USB-C. In the end? At least now they won’t have the EU on their backs.
Ironically, you have to use an adapter to charge the Apple Pencil (1st generation). If you already own it, you need to buy one separately for NOK 109, otherwise it’s included in the box when you buy the pen. Apple invites incitementbut I think they live fine with that.
Battery life is the usual ten hours. How much you get basically depends. You can make it last a flight across the Atlantic or several days of light use.
As usual, the new iPad is as fast as few, even if it doesn’t have the same super processor as the new iPad Pro. As long as you’re not doing advanced video editing or playing graphics-intensive games, it doesn’t matter.
This is what we mean
Basically it’s also a review theme for the standard iPad. It’s neither as advanced as the Pro nor the Air (or the iPad mini, let’s not forget, small as it is). It doesn’t have to be either.
Therefore, it could have an additional impact with the high price premium: weak krona, inflation and the like taken into account.
Maybe you need to bring the entry-level model from 2013 to 2022, but from being a discounted purchase, there’s more to think about this time around. Not least because the 9th generation iPad is still on sale, even though the starting price has actually increased to NOK 4,690.
(So we haven’t even mentioned the accessories you can buy for the 10th Gen iPad. The Magic Keyboard Folio, which is a two-part keyboard and cover, will cost you NOK 3,290.)
